What is Bronchitis?

Prevention

The best way to prevent chronic bronchitis is to make every effort to limit your exposure to any potential irritants. This obviously means abstaining from smoking since it is the number one cause. Even if you do currently smoke, quitting as soon as you can will still dramatically lower your chances of developing the condition if you don’t already have it.

Furthermore, even if you don’t smoke, it is always important to wear a mask or respirator whenever you’re around any potentially harmful fumes, pollutants and other irritants.

Unfortunately, it is not so easy to prevent acute bronchitis since the condition tends to occur as a result of another illness or infection. In this sense, the best thing you can to is to practice smart hygiene and do whatever you can to prevent yourself from getting sick in the first place, such as regularly washing or sanitizing your hands and getting a yearly flu shot. Nonetheless, if you do find yourself experiencing the first symptoms of acute bronchitis, making sure to drink plenty of fluids may help to lessen the bronchial inflammation.
